We haven't been here before

It's been an exciting few weeks and we hope it continues.

At the end of our 2 week wait, we finally received the news that our surrogate had a positive HCG test with a result of 242.2.  Last Tuesday, the test was repeated a second time (1 week after the first test) and we received advice that the SM was still pregnant, with the HCG number having increased to 1518.2.  Based on the HCG calculators all over the internet, the little nugget was doubling it's HCG every 63 hours - well with in the 48-72 hour expected time frame.

So Monday brings us to the 6 week pregnancy mark - and all things going well will see the first ultrasound being done on Tuesday to see if a heartbeat exists. The results of course will probably come through the next day on.... yes, you guessed it, Christmas day.

We've been reluctant to write anything over the last few weeks as we didn't want to tempt fate and tell the world only to write one of those dreadful posts saying that the pregnancy was no more.  But the community has been so supportive and a number of readers following our journey have wanted to know what happened.

So there it is.... we never thought we'd get to this point.  It's taken such a long time but things are good.  We realise there is a monumental distance to travel still and we're not out of the woods by any stretch .  But each day further is another step in the right direction.

Thanks for your ongoing support and hopefully we'll have a heartbeat on Wednesday.

We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe new year.

  1. Yay! A positive is a positive is a positive!! We got our heartbeat scan results on Feb 14th. Told the husband then and there to give up on Valentines Day for ever after as nothing would ever top that. Hope xmas day brings you the same awesome results.

  2. I'm so happy for you guys! We're basically at the same stage as you guys and the confirmation of decent betas was a cause for a huge sign of relief. After all you've gone through we're really happy for you.

  7. We've been following your journey since the very beginning, so this is really exciting news! Very happy for you guys. We're going to pursue surrogacy in Thailand the first half of next year and are curious of what clinic you're using, how you found them, costs, etc. If you don't want to post here, please send me a Skype message! My profile is charliemckeithen Thanks!!!

  8. Thanks everyone for your comments and for sticking with our story for nearly 2 years now. It's taken a long time to get this point and we hope we achieve what I think most of done.

Brent & Charlie - we're currently with NewLife. So far, so good. A much more positive experience (in every way, not just the positive pregnancy - but the respect we're afforded as IPs) compared to what happened with SI. I'd encourage you join www.thaisurrogacyforum.com which will help you boys navigate the Thailand system and players in the Surrogacy business in Bangkok. There are few nuances with Thailand compared to India (happy for you to send me any questions you might have. Best way is through the forum through PM. Our handle is GBLC78). We knew of NewLife before even looking at Thailand as they have branches in Poland, Georgia and Delhi when we were looking to move away from SI before the visa changes. We have found them to very transparent (as witnessed by the website where they openly publish their fees for ART and Surrogacy) and responsive with English skills much better than India and no random admin staff answering medical questions. But NewLIfe is an agent in Thailand (they co-ordinate the SMs but all IVF, ICSI etc is done by ALL IVF) and they don't do any of the embryology or lab work. Again, this is all done by Dr Pisit at ALL IVF. I'll keep an eye out for you on the forum. Chat soon....
